HIMSS Applauds Announcement of Former Senator Daschle as Secretary for Health and Human Services
WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 20, 2008) – The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), a membership society of more than 20,000 healthcare IT and management systems professionals, and trade association with over 350 corporations, applauds the nomination of former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Cisco Community for Connected Health Signs 2,000th Member
CHICAGO (Oct. 31, 2008) –The Community for Connected Health, a HIMSS / Cisco community of interest, announced an historic growth milestone with the addition of its 2,000th new member. Ms. Beci Roorback, a clinical application analyst at High Point Regional Health System in High Point, N.C became the 2000th member of the Community for Connected Health, a forum developed to help hospitals use information technology to drive better healthcare. 

Continua and IHE Collaborate to Strengthen Outreach and Message
CHICAGO (October 29, 2008) – Collaborating to improve the delivery of healthcare, the Continua Health Alliance (Continua) and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise International (IHE) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) to enable and promote interoperability of healthcare devices.  Both Continua and IHE recognize the need for and benefit of connecting medical and patient care devices with the healthcare system, a synergy that supports the joint educational and marketing efforts between the organizations.  

Electronic Medical Records: Slow but Steady Growth in Ambulatory Care
CHICAGO (Oct. 29, 2008) – Market growth of electronic medical record implementations in ambulatory healthcare settings, such as private medical practices or specialty clinics, continues at a slow but steady pace, according to results from the Ambulatory Healthcare IT Survey, conducted by the Healthcare Information and Management System Society (HIMSS) and HIMSS Analytics. The 2008 survey collected information about key technology use in the ambulatory market, such as EMRs and e-prescribing.

WASHINGTON, DC (Oct. 24, 2008) – The Institute for e-Health Policy Executive Director Neal Neuberger, presenting on a panel regarding technological advances in healthcare and telemedicine today at the National Press Club along with Robert Litan, author of Vital Signs via Broadband: Remote Health Monitoring Transmits Savings, Enhances Lives, made the following statement. 

Reviewing the Impact of Medical Device Data on Patient Care
CHICAGO (Oct. 8, 2008) – To evaluate patient safety and quality care benefits of medical devices that share data with EMRs, HIMSS Analytics and the American College of Clinical Engineering have agreed to jointly conduct an ongoing research study of medical devices in American hospitals. As part of this research process, HIMSS Analytics will be creating benchmark reports for hospitals that complete the survey so that these organizations can more clearly compare their operations to peer hospitals. This information can be used to review and defend allocations for both operating and capital budgets for the clinical engineering/biomedical operations.
