David A. Collins, MHA, CPHQ, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, is Senior Director, mHIMSS, the mobile community of HIMSS, the largest U.S. cause-based, not-for-profit healthcare association focused on the optimal use of information technology and management systems for the betterment of healthcare.
mHIMSS, a platform to convene, educate, and engage the mobile ecosystem, focuses on the use of mobile and wireless technologies to promote health, improve the quality, accessibility and safety of care, and increase the cost-effectiveness of care. mHIMSS builds on the existing HIMSS strengths of convening stakeholders, sharing knowledge, providing world-class education, public policy, research, and content - entirely focused on the use of mobile technologies.
Previously, Collins served as Senior Director, Professional Development, with strategic oversight of HIMSS Annual Conference planning and HIMSS specialty programming; Director, Healthcare Information Systems, managing the HIMSS Davies Awards of Excellence Program and the Patient Safety & Quality Outcomes Committee (PS&QO); and Manager, Ambulatory Information Systems.
Prior to HIMSS, Collins was project manager for the Doctor's Office Quality-Information Technology (DOQ-IT) project at Virginia's Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) in Glen Allen, Va.,from 2001-2005. Other employment has included Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Accenture Consulting, and VCU Health System/Medical College of Virginia Hospitals.
Most recently, Collins served as a 2012 Examiner for the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program.
Collins is a 2000 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University's Master of Health Administration program (MHA). Prior to his MHA, Collins served seven years as an advanced life support provider for EMS and in the emergency department setting.
