K. Meredith Taylor, MPH, serves as director, congressional affairs, for HIMSS, the largest U.S. not-for-profit healthcare association focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of information technology. HIMSS represents approximately 31,000 individual members, more than 470 corporate members and nearly 30 not-for-profit organizations that share its mission. In this role, Meredith leads HIMSS’ advocacy activities on Capitol Hill. Prior to serving as director, congressional affairs, Meredith served as manager, state government relations, at HIMSS where she was responsible for maximizing HIMSS’ grassroots advocacy activities.
Prior to joining HIMSS, Meredith served as senior policy analyst at the National Governors Association (NGA). In this role, she directed the activities of the State Alliance for e-Health’s Health Care Practice and Health Information Communication and Data Exchange Taskforces and spearheaded the NGA’s policies on public health informatics and telehealth. Meredith also served as professional staff for U.S. Sen. Thomas R. Carper on the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs’ Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information and International Security. As professional staff, Meredith was responsible for supporting Sen. Carper’s legislative activities pertaining to electronic government. Meredith arranged Congressional oversight hearings on the federal government’s information technology projects and also developed legislation concerning electronic personal health records and the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP).
Meredith is devoted to public service. She has volunteered for senate and presidential campaigns and is also a member of the Alexandria Public Health Advisory Commission in Alexandria, Va.
Meredith earned a master of public health, health policy degree from the George Washington University. Meredith earned a bachelor of arts in international studies and a bachelor of arts in political science from Virginia Tech.
Meredith resides in Alexandria, Va., with her husband, Kenneth.
